This year the donation was for $2,650, with a check presented by White Oak officials on Thursday to Steps to HOPE.

Steps To HOPE’s mission is to create a community free of domestic violence and sexual abuse through education, advocacy and client assistance. Steps To HOPE provides shelter, advocacy, support groups, free counseling, court advocacy, hospital response, youth character building skills, parenting classes and acts as a liaison for clients needing outside resources.

Steps To HOPE Executive Director B.J. Bayne said the $2,650 will go towards helping survivors moving out of the shelter into their own homes with start-up costs for expenses including rent, water, electric and other necessary utilities and deposits.

Bayne said she and Steps To HOPE are very grateful White Oak Manor chose their organization as this year’s nonprofit fundraising effort.

“Helping clients begin on a solid foundation in as many ways as possible goes a long way to ensure their future success, safety and happiness,” Bayne said.
