Coroner investigating remains found off Highway 11 in Campobello

CAMPOBELLO—The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office is investigating human remains discovered Friday morning near Highway 11 in Campobello. 

The coroner’s office first alerted the media it was investigating remains found Friday morning, saying they did not yet know if they were human or not. 

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene around 7:45 a.m. Friday. 

A hunter found the remains early Friday morning, according to Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright. 

The coroner’s office said later Friday they have confirmed the remains are human. 

“We are currently in recovery mode as the body has been here for some time,” said Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clavenger. “I’m unable to comment any more at this time as I do not have identification or family notification.”
