Mount Pleasant man being held under $188k bond

Mill Spring—The Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Mount Pleasant, N.C. man Thursday morning after finding approximately $43,800 worth of methamphetamine. 

Andrew Lee Morgan, 24, was arrested and charged with felony maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place for a controlled substance; felony possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine; two counts of felony trafficking methamphetamine; felony possession of a firearm by a felon; carrying a concealed weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to sheriff reports.

At 7:32 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, the Polk County Communications office received a call of a suspicious vehicle at Silver Creek Road and Bishop Lane in Mill Spring. Deputies responded as well as the North Carolina Highway Patrol to find Morgan and a disabled Chevrolet Trailblazer with a dealer tag on the side of the road. Deputies said Morgan was acting suspicious and was trying to give away personal property to passersby. The sheriff’s office discovered Morgan had outstanding warrants and called K-9 Karak to the scene, who indicated on Morgan’s vehicle, according to reports. 

A search of the vehicle discovered 876 grams of methamphetamine in a backpack, which has an estimated street value of $43,800, according to the sheriff’s office. 

Morgan was arrested and taken to the Polk County Detention Center, where he was given a $188,000 secured bond. 

Sheriff’s office officials said they thank the highway patrol for their assistance in the arrest.
