Polk County Middle School’s Elisa Flynn has been awarded the North Carolina Science Teachers Association (NCSTA) District Eight Outstanding Middle School Science Teaching Award for 2019.

Flynn, an eighth grade teacher at Polk County Middle, joined other honorees from around the state in being recognized Thursday at the annual NCSTA Conference in Winston-Salem.

“Ms. Flynn takes an active interest in the well-being of each of her students,” said Polk County Middle Principal Todd Murphy. “Close contact with parents is developed thoroughly, inviting them to work with the school as a valued team member. Her students respond well to her engaging approach to education and genuine interest in them.”

NCSTA District Outstanding Science Teacher Awards are presented to recognize excellence in science teaching in North Carolina. The award, given to teachers who exemplify excellent, creative and innovative teaching of science, is determined by other science educators and serves as recognition of Flynn’s professional excellence and contributions to science teaching and learning.
