MONROVIA, CA — Ruth Hannon Hamilton passed away peacefully from this life Sunday, October 6, 2019 after a gradual decline in health. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers during the last days of her life.

Ruth was born September 15, 1930 in Lynn, North Carolina, but lived in Los Angeles since 1956, raising her children with her husband Thomas Arthur (“Artie”) Hamilton, now deceased. Ruth worked as an employee at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Los Angeles. After retiring, Ruth moved to Monrovia, California where she lived for the remainder of her life.

Ruth was a gentle and kind lady and a friend to all she met.  She enjoyed young people and took great interest in their lives and achievements; always making them feel welcomed and important.  She deeply loved her early years in Tryon and would talk frequently about the beauty of the area, of all of her classmates at the Embury School, and the frequent community dances held at the home of her grandparents, John and Texanna Hannon.  She was grateful for the support of many local families, whom she remained in contact with until her last days, for their help in preparing her and her twin sister, Rachel, for life beyond Tryon.
