Jeannette L. Schmeichel

Jeannette L. Schmeichel left this earth November 1, 2019, at Tryon Estates after a brief illness. She was born to Pearl and Fred Schmeichel in Royal Oak, Michigan in 1935. She earned a Business Degree at Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn and spent 13 years at Ford Motor Company in charge of the Instrumentation Lab in the Electronics Division. 

In 1993, with husband John, she moved to Polk County and began many years volunteering in the community. In the St. Luke’s Auxiliary she Co-managed the Thrift Shop, chaired the Jr. Volunteers, and worked in the RIF and ESL programs. At Polk County 4H she was on the Board of Directors and coordinated the sewing program, taught sewing for 17 years. She is on the 4H Wall of Fame. She was a mentor in the Polk County High School Senior Project Program. At Steps to Hope she was a Court Advocate and liaison in the Domestic Abuse Intervention Program. In her “free time” she played golf at Tryon Country Club, collected dolls and was active in the Land of Sky Doll Club. For the past 5 years she created “cloth figures”, intricate and artistic characters from colorful and varied fabrics.

She is survived by husband John Hall, daughter and son-in-law Denise Hyble and Ken Ganza, son and daughter-in-law Bret and Carol Hyble, grandsons Zachary, Gabriel, Brooks and Colton, brother Bruce Schmeichel, brother and sister-in-law Neill and Joan Schmeichel, 6 nieces, 1 nephew, step children Michael Hall, Bryan Hall, Lisa Mroz, step daughter-in law Lynne Hall, step grandchildren Devon, Erin and Jack. Jeannette was preceded in death by her nephews Kevin Schmeichel, Scott Schmeichel and her parents Pearl and Fred Schmeichel.

Memorial Services will be held at Tryon Estates at a later date. Donations may be made to the Polk County Steps to Hope.
