One person appointed; others needed

SALUDA—The City of Saluda recently discovered it has no active zoning board of adjustments.

The Saluda Board of Commissioners met Tuesday and heard from city manager Jonathan Cannon.

Cannon said the city has a potential zoning variance that will be submitted soon. He said once documents were pulled, staff discovered that its zoning board of adjustments terms expired in 20017.

“So we currently do not have an active BOA,” Cannon said.

The board of commissioners appointed Hal Green back to the zoning board of adjustments on Tuesday, who had submitted his application.

“We have been fortunate to have him on that board,” said commissioner Leon Morgan.

Green is a retired attorney and previously served on the board as its chairman.

Cannon said the city has been fortunate in the last few years to not need a board of adjustment.

The last board of adjustment was appointed in 2014 and consisted of seven members.

Saluda Mayor Fred Baisden said some of the former members may no longer be interested and one has since passed away.

Anyone interested in serving on the Saluda board of adjustments can contact city hall for an application.
