Whose idea was it to start a book club?

Tryon Little Theater’s production of “The Book Club Play” opens September 19. Written Karen Zacarías who was recently hailed by American Theatre magazine as one of the most produced playwrights in the United States, this show is full of laughter and literature, but you don’t have to be a bibliophile to enjoy it.

Ana and Will have known each other for a very long time—and it was their idea to start the book club, even though Ana keeps forgetting that little detail (and Will never forgets to remind her).

Ana is played by Brenda Craig, who’s becoming a regular on the TLT stage since her first appearance in 2013 in “9 to 5”. She says she was a total theater geek as a teenager when she attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and is thrilled to be back doing what she loves.

Mark Sawyer plays Will, and although this is his first time acting with TLT, he majored in theater at Towson University in Maryland and worked at  the Circuit Playhouse in Memphis for three years before real life hit with “children, work, mortgage, the full catastrophe!” he says. His wife pushed him into auditioning, and he’s delighted to be back on stage.
