Joseph Fred Bridgeman

Columbus, NC—Joseph Fred Bridgeman, 84, of Columbus, NC , died on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at the Hospice House in Landrum, SC following a period of declining health.

Fred was born in Tryon, NC and was the son of the late Joseph Bea and Annie Foster Bridgeman.  He was a member of Columbus Baptist Church and Pacolet Baptist Church. Fred had served as a deacon and was active in his church.  He was employed by Landrum Mills for 37 years.

Fred enjoyed bluegrass music and spending time with his family.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years Pantha Jackson Bridgeman; two sons, Jeff (Sandra) Bridgeman of Concord, NC, Scott (Melissa) Bridgeman of Columbus, NC; three daughters Laura (Bruce) Meisner of Hickory, NC, Cathy (Mike) Smith of Lake Mary, FL and Lisa (Doug) Prince of Gainesville, GA.  He is survived by a sister, Brenda (Bob) Walker and their son Jason of Mill Spring, NC and a brother Ray (Mary) Bridgeman of Green Creek, NC. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Jon Lutz (Janelle) of Wendell, NC, Evan Lutz (Jennifer) of Grimesland, NC, Leah Dicks (Tim) of Columbia, SC, Rebekah Summitt (Ryan) of Granite Quarry, NC, Joseph Bridgeman (Anna) of Concord, NC, Carson Prince of Atlanta, GA, Blakeley Prince, of Gainesville GA, and Daniel Bridgeman of Columbus, NC.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of White Oak of Tryon and Hospice for the care they provided.

A funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 2, 2019 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon, NC with Rev. Chad Bowen officiating.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.

Burial will follow the service at Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbus, NC.
