Polk to host football jamboree Monday

Polk County’s 2019 football team will meet opponents for the first time Monday as the Wolverines host a four-team scrimmage at G.M. Tennant Stadium.
North Henderson will join Polk County and South Carolina schools Blue Ridge and Southside in the Wolverine Jamboree, set to kick off at 6 p.m. Admission is $5. The event will be held rain or shine.
Blue Ridge will arrive with freshman quarterback Grayson Loftis, a 6-2 passer who has already received a scholarship offer from Georgia. The Tigers are looking to bounce back from a 1-9 record in 2018.
Southside finished 9-4 last season and features senior running back Braydon Bennett, who rushed for 2,048 yards and 29 touchdowns in 2018. He is the son of former NFL running back Brandon Bennett, is also a state champion hurdler and has received offers from Penn State and Virginia, among others.
North Henderson will debut under new head coach Jim Beatty, a former head coach at T.C. Roberson. The Knights finished 0-11 last season.
Polk County will travel Friday to Hendersonville to face Travelers Rest in its final preseason tuneup before hosting Cherokee on August 23 in the season opener.
