Blueberries gleaned for Feed-A-Kid 2019

With the start of the new school year looming, the 2019 Summer Feed-a-Kid (FAK) program is nearing its end. An abundance of sweet blueberries still left on the bushes after the official picking season were graciously offered for gleaning by Trickle Creek Farm in Mill Spring. Fourteen FAK Volunteers picked approximately 60 pounds of the sweet nuggets. Two days later, these berries were distributed to each of the 61 families on the FAK routes. Fresh and local produce that might have gone to waste is bringing unexpected delight and a healthy and delicious addition to the weekly bag of food.

If anyone knows of or would like to offer other gleaning opportunities, such as apples, peaches, or melons, please call the office at the Congregational Church in Tryon, UCC at 828-859-9414.
