Polk County’s Charley Dusenbury took a top three finish on July 23 in the Drive, Putt and Chip 2020 local qualifying event held at The Links at Stoney Point in Greenwood, S.C.

Dusenbury’s effort earned her a spot in the subregional qualifying event set for August 24 at Fort Jackson, S.C. The series will conclude next year with the national competition at Augusta National Golf Club.

Golfers take part in all three skills – driving, putting and chipping – earning points for their showing in each.

Competing in the girls 10-11 division, Dusenbury took top honors in driving while placing third in putting.

A rising sixth grader at Polk County Middle School, Dusenbury is the daughter of Trey and Cindy Dusenbury of Columbus.

Two other area golfers – Addie Buss and Evan Jones – finished first in their age divisions at the qualifier held in June at Meadowbrook Golf Course. Their subregional is set for August 10 in Greensboro.

A joint initiative founded in 2013 by the Masters Tournament, United States Golf Association and The PGA of America, Drive, Chip and Putt is a free nationwide junior golf development competition aimed at growing the game by focusing on the three fundamental skills employed in golf.
