Duke Energy to begin work to increase reliability to Mill Spring and Lake Lure

Published 9:50 pm Tuesday, August 6, 2019

Duke Energy has shared with Polk County Local Government that it is about to begin work on a project that will help to increase reliability to the Mill Spring and Lake Lure areas.

From early August to around mid-November, multiple crews will be working to upgrade the feeder tie that runs along Hwy. 9 between these two communities. Work will include installing bigger wire, taller poles and more. These efforts are part of a long range strategy to enhance reliability by strengthening the ties between feeders and substations in the area.

As much of the work is right along Hwy. 9, Duke Energy is encouraging motorists to be aware of work zones and pay attention to flaggers. They expect there will be occasional lane closures but will work to minimize impacts to the public.
