Land cleared for new Landrum strip mall

LANDRUM—In April, the Landrum City Council reviewed the proposal to add a strip mall in the vacant lot next to Bi-Lo, directly behind Bojangles. The lot where the new strip mall will be constructed has been cleared.

The new strip mall will have approximately 4,800 square feet of internal space that will be divided into multiple storefronts. The property is classified as a C-1 zone allowing a wide variety of uses such as; general retail stores, general offices and government buildings, public or private recreation establishments, hotels or motels, parking lots and garages, churches or other religious facilities, grocery stores, noncommercial horticulture, banks and other financial institutions, as well as kindergarten or preschool day care centers.

The new structure will share the existing parking lot with Bi-Lo and the other stores in that complex. Although the city zoning code requires an additional 24 parking spaces to be added, the zoning administrator has reported that after random site inspections of the parking center at various times of the day, the location has an abundance of parking in its current state. Two existing spaces will be converted into handicap accessible spots for the new building.

The land where the strip mall will be built has recently been cleared and is undergoing preparations to being construction. A timeline for the project and completion of the building is not yet available. Landrum City Administrator Rich Caplan did share the architectural rendering of the structure.
