In preparation for Tax Free Weekend the South Carolina Department of Revenue has provided several useful tools to outline items that are exempt from taxes during that period. Tax Free Weekend is primarily associated with back to school shopping because the incentives are focused on making school and dorm supplies exempt from both the state’s six percent Sales Tax and any applicable local tax.

The deals are not limited to just South Carolina residents; the offers are available to anyone who shops in South Carolina during the Tax Free Weekend. The South Carolina Department of Revenue estimates that in the past years, shoppers have saved between $2 million and $3 million through the tax break event.

There are four main categories that the SC Department of Revenue grant tax exemption to; school supplies, bed and bath, clothing and accessories, and computers and technology. The tax exemptions are meant to help students and parents from preschool age all the way through college. Simple items like pencils and crayons are exempt, to full-blown computers and laptops needed by almost every college student across America.

To view the full comprehensive list of items that will included in the tax exemption sales, view the SC Department of Revenue website at www.dor.sc.gov/taxfreeweekend.
