Park in the Dark
A family-friendly nocturnal event with campfire stories, creatures of the night and stargazing
Celebrate the beginning of summer vacation by seeing day turn into night from the top of Chimney Rock. Your family will enjoy hands-on activities, nature stations, storytelling around the campfire, s’mores and much more around during this event.
The event is on Saturday, June 8 from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. It will start with a welcome musical introduction by Doug Elliot at 7:45 p.m., who will talk about the Friends of Chimney Rock State Park organization and how they help support the Park.
At 8:15 p.m., the elevator and Outcroppings trail will open. Guests can enjoy stargazing with the Astronomy Club of Asheville from the top of the Rock, eat some scrumptious s’mores while listening to campfire stories told by Park Superintendent James Ledgerwood, Brian Bockhahn and Doug Elliot and checkout multiple nocturnal animal encounters. The night will conclude with a spooky campfire story at 9:30 p.m. and a harmonica song performance at the base of the Chimney at 10:00 p.m.
The use of flashlights is encouraged.
