The suspect pointed a gun in the homeowner’s face and another man demanded the keys to the truck, according to Wright.

While this occurred, someone else in the house called 911 and a deputy responded. The incident happened on Holly Springs Church Road in Campobello.

When the officer approached, the suspect was in the truck with a gun, according to Wright. The officer approached and gave commands to put the gun down, but the suspect pointed the gun at the deputy.

Wright said the deputy did what he was supposed to do.

Wright said when the suspect grabbed for his gun, the deputy opened fire and killed the suspect.

The suspect was identified by the Spartanburg County Coroner later Wednesday as David Marcus Reece, 47, of Ben Johnson Road, Inman, S.C. Reece was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:41 a.m., according to the coroner.

The deputy was reportedly not injured and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating the shooting.
