The annual event allows senior citizens in the community to voice any of their opinions and concerns. Chief Ahler likes to use the event as a means to keep the older members of the community engaged and involved.

Chief Ahler has been working to raise funds to create a senior citizen community center in Landrum.

The Breakfast with the Blue event also allows Chief Ahler and the other Landrum officers the opportunity to provide senior citizens with advice on how to protect themselves and plan for their safety. In addition to their general safety, officers also advise seniors on how to spot potential scams.

As technology advances many senior citizens find it hard to keep up. Con artists have taken advantage of the rapid expansion of technology and use it to gain personal information and money from the elderly. Recent studies by SeniorLiving.org show the three most common ways that con artists scam senior citizens use a combination of computers and telephones to obtain personal information. Two of the most common scams that target seniors are; telemarketing and Health Insurance scams, primarily Medicare related.

While the Breakfast with the Blue event offers advice to the senior citizens in Landrum, it acts as more of an opportunity for them to get to know their local law enforcement. For more information on the event visit the City of Landrum Facebook page at, https://www.facebook.com/cityoflandrum/.
