Kick Off Tryon Horse Heritage Week (THHW) in Downtown Tryon on Saturday, April 13. Tryon Downtown Development Association (TDDA) is hosting a downtown block party to celebrate our unique equestrian history and community. Enjoy some of the classic events and activities related to the Horse in our own historic downtown. 

 

The 73rd Annual Block House Steeplechase was set to be the kick-off event for THHW, taking place throughout Tryon April 13–21. Due to upgrades on the course being disrupted from extreme rain and the safety of the horses being paramount, Steeplechase had to be rescheduled to October 5, 2019. It is scheduled to return in the Spring in 2020. 

 

“While we will certainly miss Steeplechase as the kick off of THHW this year, we saw an opportunity to embrace some of the fun activities and help our downtown businesses” said Audrey Kendrick, chair of the TDDA Equestrian Heritage Committee. The Downtown Kick-off party will include a hat contest, stick horse races, and even a downtown tailgate. Dress up your parking spot and let everyone check out your best tailgate décor. More events and activities will be announced. 

 

LIVE MUSIC: The TROPHY HUSBANDS will perform at St. Luke’s Plaza, near Tryon Fountain starting at noon for a rockin‘ afternoon! 

 

TAILGATE: We have only a few spots available in Downtown Tryon reserved specifically for YOU to tailgate! The spots are first come, first served for a small fee. As a part of the tailgate spot, your hosting, decorating and tailgating ability will be put to the test by our judges. Prizes will be awarded. Register at A Taste of Olives and Grapes. Spots are limited. As per our ordinance, beer and wine are permitted on the sidewalks, liquor is NOT. 

 

HAT CONTEST: Stop by the Tryon Depot at 11:30 to participate in the hat contest. All ages are welcome to join in on the fun. 

 

HORSE RACES: Not your typical horse races… stick horse races! Starting after the hat contest around noon, join in at the Tryon Depot.  

 

ADOPTABLE DOGS FROM FOOTHILLS HUMANE SOCIETY: Our friends at FHS will be bringing a few of their adoptable dogs and more information about dog adoption! 

 

TRYON HOUNDS: Will have a few hound puppies.
