COLUMBUSThe Ice Cream Barn is moving locations and will hold a grand opening at their new building on Saturday, April 6thThe new location is on East Mills Street beside Jackson Wrecker Service. The finishing touches are being applied to the building in the final week before the move.

The Ice Cream Barn is a family owned and operated business by the husband and wife pair Melissa and Keith Henderson. Melissa will handle most of the day-to-day duties at the Ice Cream Barn along with her children and extended family membersThe list of new improvements and renovations is quite extensive;

New roof, new ceilings, new flooring, lots of seating, parking lot freshly marked, new paint throughout, new LED lights inside and out, outside of the building to be painted before the grand opening” said Melissa Henderson. It’s coming together like a puzzle and is absolutely adorable.

The Ice Cream Barn serves Hershey Ice Cream and homemade deserts currently, but with the move comes the opportunity to expand. Melissa hopes to add homemade soups and sandwiches to the store in the fall of 2019.

In addition to the Hershey Ice Cream the Hendersons will also have Hawaiian shaved ice, homemade hot fudge cakes, and homemade brownie sundaes. The Ice Cream Barn also carries non-dairy and sugar free ice cream for customers with special needs or diets.

“I would say 9/10 of our ice creams are gluten free” Melissa said, “We try to include a variety of deserts so that anyone that is diabetic, gluten free, or lactose intolerant can come and have a good time.”

The new location will include a total of 12 parking spaces as well as a specially marked handicapped parking space in the front of the building that will allow van access. There will be more seating inside the building than the old location, as well as rocking chairs on the front porch, outdoor picnic tables, and a porch swing.

The grand opening will be on Saturday April 6th and the Hendersons have already began preparations for the big day by inviting some of their barnyard friends.

“Big new shipment of ice cream arriving Tuesday! Clara Belle and Clyde will be there to visit with our customers along with their other farm animal friends. Buck the horse, Sophie the black sheep and Grayson the goat. It’s going to be a Saturday we will always remember! Love you all and can’t wait to see you soon!”

Birthday parties and other large gatherings are welcomed and encouraged to call to set up a reservation. The new store hours will be 11am-7pm Monday-Thursday, 11am-9pm on Friday and Saturday, and 2pm-9pm on Sundays. The Henderson family plans to extend these hours in the summer months.
