BILL BURNETTE

COLUMBUS – Elbert Simpson “Bill” Burnette, 90, of Columbus went home to be with the Lord, Thursday afternoon, March 28, 2019 at White Oak Manor of Tryon.

 

A native of Polk County, he was the son of the late Elbert Simpson “Eb” Burnette and Pearl Tallant Burnette and husband of the late Lucille Stokes Burnette who passed away in 1991. Mr. Burnette owned and operated E.S. Burnette & Co. He was a charter member of Midway Baptist Church having milled the lumber for the original church, Sunday School Superintendent, and served as a deacon since 1960.

Surviving are two sons, Carroll Burnette (Lauren) of Columbus, NC and Gerald Burnette (Brenda) of Starr, SC; one daughter, Peggy Bradley (Ronald) of Sunny View, NC; two sisters, Grace Gilbert of Asheville, NC and Myrtle Chapman of Abbeville, SC. Also surviving are six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

 

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2019 in Polk Memorial Gardens with Rev. William Swink, Rev. Peter McDonald and Mr. Joe Foster officiating.

 

The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

 

At other times, the family will be at the home of his daughter, Peggy Bradley.
