Join Conserving Carolina on Friday, April 5, for a 6.8 mile, easy to moderate, loop hike along the Pilot Cove and Slate Rock Creek Trails in the Pisgah Ranger District of Pisgah National Forest. Conserving Carolina’s southeast stewardship manager, Pam Torlina, will lead the hike. 

Hikers will enjoy scenic views through the leafless trees, two waterfalls, and several cascades along Slate Rock Creek. This should also be a great opportunity for viewing newly emerging wildflowers and hearing early migrating birds! There are several stream crossings, so appropriate footwear is suggested.   

If you are interested in attending the hike on April 5, meet at the east end of the Columbus Plaza Shopping Center, 250 West Mills Street, in Columbus, NC (near Food Lion), at 8:30 a.m. to check in, arrange carpooling, and start the approximately one hour drive to the parking area. If you’re coming from an area closer to the trailhead, please contact Pam Torlina to make other meeting arrangements. Hikers should be prepared to return to the area in the mid-afternoon. 

For your safety, do not attempt any hike beyond your ability and experience. Hikers should wear appropriate clothing and footwear; bring a bag lunch and/or snack and plenty of water. Please be sure to bring any personal medication that you may require.
