Arbutus Skipper Foster

Green Creek, NC—Arbutus Skipper Foster, 94, of Green Creek, NC passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at White Oak Manor in Tryon, NC. 

Born in Polk County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Minnie Pettit Skipper.  Arbutus was a loving and devoted wife, mother and homemaker always putting her children’s needs above her own.  She was a woman of many talents including gardening, crafting and playing music.  Arbutus loved to play the guitar and sing and shared her talent with many people over the years.  She faithfully attended Green Creek Baptist Church for many years until her health no longer allowed for her to attend. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Julian F. Foster and a son, R. Jay Foster.

Surviving are 3 daughters, Kay F. Burgess of Hendersonville, NC, Jane Jackson (Rick) of Green Creek, NC and Arlene Young (Brian) of Hendersonville, NC; four grandsons, Tracey Cox, Brent Jackson, Travis Jackson and Heath Merrill; one granddaughter, Marla Mabry; five great grandchildren, Benjamin Jackson, Sara Mabry, Braley Jackson, Aubrey Jackson and Chase Jackson and one brother, Fred T.C Skipper of Wellford, SC.  Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. 

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2019 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon, NC with Pastor Don Hollifield officiating. 

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. 

Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbus, NC.
