Tryon Estates was Polk’s top taxpayer in 2018

Tryon International Equestrian Center came in as second top taxpayer 

 

POLK COUNTY—Tryon Estates, or Adult Communities Total Services in Columbus was Polk County’s top taxpayer in 2018, followed by the Tryon International Equestrian Center.

Polk County’s annual audit includes statistical information, including the top 10 taxpayers of the year. The North Carolina Local Government Commission recently approved the county’s audit for fiscal year 2017-2018, which ended June 30, 2018. 

ACTS had a taxable assessed value of $48,569,120 in 2018.  

TIEC, or Tryon Equestrian Properties, had a taxable assessed value of $35,992,340 in 2018, according to the report.  

Tryon Showgrounds came in at third and fourth top highest taxpayers with assessed values of $27,940,065 and $21,653,859 respectively.  

The fifth highest taxpayer was Alianza Trinity, or Bright’s Creek, which had a taxable assessed value of $19,797,747 in 2018, according to the report.  

The next five top taxpayers for 2018 were Duke Energy, Rutherford Electric Membership Corporation, Green River Farm LLC, Public Service Co. of North Carolina and Clary Hood Inc.  

The top 10 taxpayers for 2018 made up 73.62 percent of the county’s total taxable assessed value, or $212,025,650. The county’s tax rate is currently 52.94 cents per $100 of property valuation.  

The county’s audit report compared the top 10 taxpayers in 2018 to the top 10 taxpayers from 2009.  

In 2009, Bright’s Creek was the county’s top taxpayer, with a $63,539,288 taxable assessed value. Tryon Estates was second in 2009, with a $49,056,958 taxable assessed value.  

Duke Energy was the third highest taxpayer in 2009, with a value of $27,742,148.  

TIEC, or what was then White Oak, came in sixth in 2009, with a taxable assessed value of $11,637,058, according to the report.  

Taxpayers who made the top 10 list in 2009 but not in 2018 include Tryon Investment Properties, Chestnut Oak Development, Windstream NC Inc. and Tryon/Columbus Retirement Associates LLC.
