Polk County’s program is in a rebuilding phase under first-year head coach Lemont Jones.

The Patriots (9-7, 3-1) closed the first quarter with a a 6-2 spurt to take a 17-7 edge, then extended the margin to 39-23 at the half as Polk County (0-14, 0-4) worked to get its offense on track.

That effort suffered a blow in the second half as senior guard Amir Gary was sidelined by an injury. His status for Polk County’s home game Tuesday with Owen was uncertain after the game.

Clark Phipps scored 20 points to lead the Wolverines, with Dominique Carson scoring 12 points and grabbing six rebounds. Ezekiel Hermann added eight points and eight rebounds while Tyler Staley had three and Mitchell Yoder, Sedrick Pickett, Keyandre Thomas and Grant Waddell each had two points.
