Rugby girls slip past Polk Middle girls basketball squad in defensive battle

The improvement of Polk County Middle’s girls basketball team continued to show Tuesday, as the Wolverines dropped a narrow 26-18 decision to Rugby Middle in a Blue Ridge Athletic Conference game at Polk.
Rugby (6-4) emerged the winner in a defensive struggle in which the two teams combined for 12 points in the second half.
Polk Middle (1-9) trailed 18-14 at halftime.
The Wolverines were led by Caroline Taylor’s 10 points, with Kayleigh Wilson, Paige Griffin, Brianna Gray and Sarah Gray each scoring two points.
Polk Middle is slated to travel Thursday to Flat Rock before returning home Monday for its regular-season home finale against Brevard Middle.
