Charles Edwin Dunn

Charles Edwin Dunn, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed away Monday, Nov. 26, 2018. 

Born on June 15, 1932, in Elwood, Indiana, he graduated from the University of Illinois and was a single-engine jet pilot in the U.S. Air Force. 

He spent 50 years in the college/university/hospital development area, raising funds for current operations and endowment purposes. Positions held were director of development and/or planned giving for University of Evansville, Deaconess Hospital, Lander University, Rice University, St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland, and Converse College. He also served as vice chancellor of the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

After retiring to Tryon, North Carolina, he served as executive director of St. Luke’s Hospital Foundation, was an elder of Tryon Presbyterian Church, a member of the Tryon Concert Association Board and an active member of the Tryon Rotary and the Community Chorus. 

He also co-produced and participated in Gilbert and Sullivan Savoyards productions in Evansville, Indiana, Greenwood, South Carolina, and Tryon.

After moving to Greenville, he was a charter resident of Cascades and chairman of the homeowners association.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy; and their four children, Jennifer

Yarborough, Amy Monroe, Lucy Dunn, Charles Dunn and their spouses. He is

also survived by seven grandchildren. 

A private family memorial service will be held in December.
