Walter G. Ray

Walter G. Ray, 98, died at White Oak at North Grove in Spartanburg on Nov. 15, 2018.
He was born on Aug. 30, 1920, in Boston, the son of Marvin and Gladys Ray of Brookline, Massachusetts.
He lived in Massachusetts until 1961, when he moved to Romeo, Michigan. In 1985, he retired as a vice president from Master Pneumatic Inc. in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
During that time, he also served on the FRL Standards Committee of the National Fluid Power Association, as well as on the marketing committee.
In 1991, he moved to Columbus, North Carolina, from Romeo, where he was a past president of the Romeo Rotary Club and a member of the Romeo Elks. He was also on the board of directors of the Macomb County Easter Seal Society.
During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps as a fighter pilot.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marion, of 57 years. They have four children, Alan and his wife Autumn of Camas, Washington, Wendy Higdon and her husband Dorsey of Oceanside, California, Doug and his wife Patty of Campobello, South Carolina, and Randall of Sautee, Georgia. He also had 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, M. Whitman Ray; and leaves a brother, Winthrop, of Barboursville, Virginia.; and two sisters, Janet Brown and her husband Roger of Concord, New Hampshire, and Marilyn Douglass and her husband Arthur of Holliston, Massachusetts.
His remains were cremated with no services scheduled.
