Bowl for Kids’ Sake enjoys another ‘striking’ success

The Big Brothers Big Sisters 15th annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake rallied wonderful support from the community, organizers said.

Sponsorships were provided, teams were formed, donors pledged support and businesses and individuals donated awards and prizes.

Participants gathered at Autumn Lanes in Forest City to celebrate the event with an afternoon of bowling. Some got into the spirit of the pirate theme with their costumes.

One of the Congregational Church “Holy Rollers” teams that participated included members, front row: Will Winterrowd, Neil Rostick and Lauren Winterrowd; back row: Virginia Rostick and Mike Winterrowd. (Submitted photo)

Sponsors and donors were announced, and those who collected the most pledges were awarded special recognition.

Becky Kennedy, from the Polk County Democratic Women’s “The Bowled and the Beautiful” team, gathered the most support by raising $3,700 for her team, with pledges ranging from $5 to $500. Traditionally, the most ardent Bowl for Kids’ Sake supporter, Kennedy has consistently led with her heart, which apparently makes her requests for donations irresistible, organizers said.

Her teammates, Helen Clement and Frances Parker, came in second and third in donations, followed by Big Brother Dan Dworkin from the team of Bigs and Littles.

The Congregational Church of Tryon was the main sponsor and hosted two teams for the event. Other main sponsors were CooperRiis, Lichty Guitars, Rob Fuller, New View Realty and Morning Glory Farm, along with a host of other supporters.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is grateful to all the sponsors, donors, bowlers and volunteers who contributed to the success of their biggest fundraiser of the year, organizers said.
