N.C. DMV to launch new online payment platform Saturday

The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles will launch a new online payment platform so customers can complete several types of vehicle registration transactions online beginning Saturday.
Customers will eventually be able to use the myNCDMV platform to complete other services, in addition to vehicle registration transactions. The new online platform marks an improvement because people who currently conduct business online with the NCDMV must complete one transaction and then log in again to complete a second transaction, representatives said.
“We are excited to provide faster, more efficient services for people looking to complete DMV business online,” said DMV Commissioner Torre Jessup. “myNCDMV will allow us to meet people’s needs in a more modern and convenient way.”
Initially, the myNCDMV service will be available for vehicle registration transactions such as renewals, property tax payments on limited registration license plates, duplicate registration card requests, and personalized and specialty license plate orders. Additional services will be added in the coming months to include driver license renewals, duplicate license and ID card requests, driving record orders and online appointment scheduling.
People will be able to access myNCDMV through the DMV website, Google Play or iTunes. Customers will still be able to conduct transactions at their local license plate agency. To complete the transition to myNCDMV, vehicle registration services will not be available between 8:30 p.m. and midnight Nov. 16.
Each session will include a $3 convenience fee to cover the cost of the vendor, PayIt, that provides the online service. For the first time, NCDMV also will be able to accept electronic check payments for online services through myNCDMV.
Other benefits of myNCDMV include:
• A myNCDMV mobile app
• One account profile to complete all NCDMV services online
• Access to a secure mobile wallet with receipts, payment information and account information
• A dashboard to quickly find pertinent information at a glance
• Transaction history for myNCDMV services
• Set reminders and status updates for future services
• Personalized, chat-based experience to guide users through various transactions quickly
NCDMV has been working with PayIt to launch this new service since 2017.
PayIt provides services to a number of large state and local governments and specializes in simplifying online government transactions, including taxes, utilities and court records.
