The Foothills Humane Society was selected as the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization to receive gifts of money donated by the residents of White Oak Village of Tryon and matched by the White Oak Management Inc. of Spartanburg.

The purpose of the Foothills Humane Society is to shelter and care for stray and surrendered companion animals within our community. Other goals are to prevent cruelty to animals, reunite lost animals with their owners, adopt animals to qualified homes or place them with reputable rescue organizations and educate the public about responsible animal ownership and population control.

When picking up the money, Foothills Humane Society Executive Director Christine Taylor said the donation of $3,000 will go toward Digs for Dogs, which is a proposed kennel to keep dogs out of the elements. The current kennels are partially outdoors.
