Meeting Place announces October Volunteer of the Month

Each day, The Meeting Place is responsible for making sure hundreds of Polk County’s home-bound senior adults are fed a nutritious meal.

This could not be possible without the volunteers who offer their time to deliver those meals.

Each month, the center highlights one of those volunteers. For the month of October, that person is Mary O’Brian.

Ten years ago, O’Brian moved to Tryon from Beaufort, South Carolina, and has been volunteering for the Meals on Wheels program at the Columbus center for most of that time. O’Brian is a mother, grandmother and role model of four children and eight grandchildren.

She was happily married to her late husband for 54 years.

When asked about her volunteering experience, O’Brian said, “I really enjoy driving in beautiful Polk County and seeing my people!”

Those interested in volunteering to help deliver meals can contact the center at 828-894-0001.
