Tryon Arts & Crafts School invites the public to see the work of  its October Artist of the Month, Wendy Deudne, one last time before the end of the month.

TACS will hold a pop-up reception from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday.

The current exhibit at TACS features Wendy’s work in glass, pottery and fiber arts. Nearly all of the works on exhibit were made at TACS, though she attributes most of her talents to her family.

“I have been surrounded by art — mostly contemporary art — my whole life,” Deudne said. “My mother is an artist. The shelves in my childhood home were lined with art books. My grandmother taught me how to sew and crochet. I watched my father make desks and shelves for our house.”

Over the past six years, TACS has been the catalyst for her to branch out from her foundation, Deudne said. At the school, she has added basket weaving, wood, wire-wrapping and metals to her practice.

When Deudne is not in Mill Springs or visiting family in her native New York, there is a good chance she can be found at one of the many art studios at TACS. She is also a member of the school’s board of directors.

Those interested in learning more may call the school at 828-859-8323 or visit TryonArtsandCrafts.org.
