Wolverines dot list of state 1A volleyball statistical leaders

A trio of Polk County volleyball players are ranked among the top five 1A players in the state in various statistical categories based on MaxPreps data.

As the Wolverines enter the final week of the regular season, several players dot the 1A state lists of leaders, including the top-five trio.

Junior Sydney Waldman sits second among 1A players in assists with 649. East Surry junior Ally McCraw leads 1A players at present with 757 assists.

Wolverine senior Ansley Lynch has 485 digs, the second-highest total among 1A players. Lynch trails only the 526 digs of North Stokes’ Skylar Amos.

Polk County junior Mireya Roman ranks third among 1A players in hitting with a .343 percentage. Lakewood’s Annabeth Averette leads 1A players with a .420 average.

Roman is also 12th in the state in blocks with 77. East Surry’s Maggie Holt heads 1A players with 124.

Polk County junior Grace Lauer ranks 12th in the state among 1A players with 209 kills. Starmount senior Kayla Vanhoy heads the 1A leaders with 359.

Polk County will host Asheville Christian Academy on Monday for a nonconference match before hosting Madison on Tuesday in its final regular-season match of the season. The Wolverines can clinch sole possession of the Western Highlands Conference title with a win over the Patriots.
