Those who “arrrr” ready to support a local nonprofit can take to the lanes later this month during the Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids’ Sake.

Held this year on Saturday, Oct. 27, at Autumn Lanes in Forest City, the event will have a pirate theme. Costumes are optional but encouraged, and the best costume will win a prize.

Every year, Becky Kennedy forms a team of bowlers from the Polk County Democratic Women. Kennedy and the team consistently bring in the most funds of any team, with Kennedy’s pledge totals topping the charts. (Submitted photo)

To participate, team members solicit pledges, find a team sponsor or just pay the minimum fee to join the event. Each member bowls two free games and will get a free T-shirt, pizza and drink, plus the chance to win door prizes.

Special awards go to those who generate the most fundraising success with their pledges. For the past few years, Becky Kennedy has topped the list, bringing in thousands in donations simply by asking all of her friends, family, business associates and acquaintances.
