AAUW to host annual Porcelain, Poetry and Prose tea on Saturday

The Tryon Branch of the American Association of University Women will host its eighth annual Porcelain, Poetry and Prose fundraising scholarship tea on Saturday at historic Sunnydale.

All proceeds will provide scholarships for local girls and women. The event will include award-winning authors Denise Kiernan and Susan Rivers. 

Denise Kiernan

Kiernan’s novels include her newest, “The Last Castle and The Girls of Atomic City,” a New York Times, Los Angeles Times and NPR bestseller, which was named as one of Amazon’s “Top 100 Best Books of 2013.” It was also awarded the 2014 American Political Science Association Woodrow Wilson Foundation Award for the best book published in the United States on government, politics or international affairs.

Rivers, whose first novel, “The Second Mrs. Hockaday,” was a People Magazine “Best New Books Pick” and a Woman’s Day “Editor’s Desk Pick,” as well an IndieNext, Library Reads and a SIBA Winter OKRA Pick. The novel was a finalist for The Center for Fiction First Novel Prize 2017 and the Southern Book Prize 2018.
