Harold Taylor Jones

Harold Taylor Jones, 100, passed away peacefully at Tryon Estates in Columbus, North Carolina, on Sept. 22, 2018.
Harold Jones was born on Jackson Street, Freehold, New Jersey, to Scottish immigrants, Hannah Taylor and David Jones. Harold was the co-owner/operator of H. T. Jones Transportation Trucking Company Inc. with his wife, Grace Courville Jones, and had Nescafe and Anchor Hocking Glass as his major contracts.
During World War II he earned the rank of captain, and served in the 3677th Quartermaster Corps serving in France and Germany, delivering supplies to Gen. George Patton at the Battle of the Bulge.
After the war, Capt. Jones was instrumental in the organization of the National Guard in Freehold. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and the Freehold Rotary Club.
He was a resident of Freehold until he retired in 1981, when he and Grace relocated to Wilton, Maine; Sun City Center, Flordia; The Villages, Florida; and Tryon Estates in Columbus.
His loving wife, Grace, passed away in 2015 after 73 years of marriage.
Family meant everything to him, and he is survived by his three daughters, Susan Harris (Stan), Diane Ames (Marty) and Gail Atkins (Allan); 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be visitation at Higgins Funeral Home in Freehold on Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, with visiting hours 4 to 6 p.m. A funeral Mass at St. Rose of Lima will take place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, with burial immediately following.
