Tryon Concert Association to present Canadian Brass Oct. 4

Famed brass band Canadian Brass will open the Tryon Concert Association’s 2018-2019 subscription series at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Tryon Fine Arts Center.

Canadian Brass’ music ranges from trademark Baroque and Dixieland to new compositions and arrangements. The program for this concert includes works by Mozart, Bach, Lennon & McCartney, and Bernstein. 

Concert-goers will note the black suits and white sneakers, de rigueur performance wardrobe.

The quintet is made up of founding member Chuck Daellenbach on tuba, Christopher Coletti and Caleb Hudson on trumpets, Achilles Liarmakopoulos on trombone, and Jeff Nelsen on horn.

The group has appeared as guest artists on “Evening at Pops” with John Williams and the Boston Pops, the Beverly Sills production of “Music Around the World,” and numerous PBS specials, including an appearance on “Sesame Street.” Canadian Brass has been a frequent guest of major symphony orchestras. Their discography includes over 130 albums, many having scored Billboard chart positions.

This year’s touring schedule includes stops all over North America and Europe. Canadian Brass was the first brass ensemble from the West to perform in the People’s Republic of China as well as the first brass group to take the main stage at Carnegie Hall.
