Remembering the fallen

The fire departments of Landrum, Campobello and Inman, as well as local Landrum police, Landrum Rescue 11 squad members, elected officials and dozens of townspeople, came together for a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at the Landrum Depot. Memories and thoughts were expressed by two people who had first-hand experiences of the events of that day. Steve Boehm, a retired firefighter and fire marshal with the Fire Department of New York, was actively involved in the rescue efforts at the World Trade Center. Linda Lancaster, a retired naval commander, was working in Washington and stationed at the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001. LJ Meyers, of Homeward Angels, organized the white dove release to represent the lost souls of that day, which remains etched in the memories of many across the nation.
