Green Blades Garden Club announces programs for latest season

The Green Blades Garden Club will begin its 2018-2019 season on Thursday, Sept. 13, with Susan Cano, an accomplished Ikebana Instructor who will present “Ikebana,” a Japanese art of flower arranging. 

She holds the teacher level of “First Grade Fiji” in the Sogetsu School of Ikebana. She has been published in books titled “Poetical Ikebana” and “Ikebana by Emotion.”

• Oct. 11: John Vining, “New Plants for WNC Gardeners”

• Nov. 8: Clara Curtis, “NC Arboretum: History, Art, Gardens and Exhibits”

• Jan. 10, 2019: Eden Brothers, “The Seediest Place on Earth” (open to the public at the Tryon Fine Arts Center at 1:30 p.m.)

• Feb. 14, 2019: Jay Kranyik, “Winged Wonders: Step into the World of Butterflies” (open to the public at the Tryon Fine Arts Center at 1:30 p.m.)

• March 14, 2019: Master Gardeners of Lake Lure Flowering Bridge, “Repurposing Found Objects as Garden Accents”                                                  

• April 11, 2019: Stuart Evans, “Picnic in the Garden, a Guided Garden Tour”
