A late arrival did not deter Polk County Middle’s volleyball squad on Wednesday.
The Wolverines reached Madison Middle less than five minutes before the scheduled start of their match. But that didn’t stop Polk from posting a 25-11, 27-25 Blue Ridge Conference win over the Patriots, with the Polk fifth quarter team earning a 25-9 victory as well.
“Our girls were basically running onto the court and pulling up their knee pads as the first ball was served,” said Polk Middle head coach Matthew Russell. “They showed resilience again today dealing with tough circumstances.”
After an easy win in the first set, Polk County (2-0) faced a battle in the second as Madison Middle raced to a 6-0 lead. But some key serves from Kayleigh Wilson helped bring the Wolverines back, and Ada Kelley closed the match with a block of a Madison kill to secure the win.
Polk County Middle returns to the court on Tuesday, hosting Apple Valley.
