The Tryon Fine Arts Center will host a celebration of one of the country’s most popular genres in a show titled Masters of Soul at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28.
Masters of Soul is a celebration of the songs and performers that defined Motown, R&B and soul music. This 90-minute show will feature costumed, fully choreographed performances of male and female groups backed by a live band.
For many, Masters of Soul is the ultimate stroll down memory lane. For younger generations, the show offers an opportunity to experience an era of the country’s history that produced many of the greatest music acts ever recorded, center representatives said.
Based in Virginia Beach, Virginia, the 10-person cast consists of three lead male vocalists and three lead female vocalists, backed by a four-piece band of seasoned musicians who have been touring together for decades. Masters of Soul has performed to sold-out audiences and garnered rave reviews across the country.
Masters of Soul captures the harmonies from performers such as Gladys Knight & The Pips, Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, Barry White, Sam and Dave, James Brown, and many more.
Masters of Soul will open Tryon Fine Arts Center’s Main Stage Series, which will continue with Sierra Hull on Nov. 2, Gina Chavez on March 9, 2019, and Freddy Cole on April 27, 2019.
