Green’s goals help spark Polk Middle to shutout win in opener

Keaundrae Green scored a pair of first-half goals Monday to help spark Polk County Middle to a 6-0 win over Asheville Christian Academy in boys soccer action at Utz Field.

Green scored in the 24th and 33rd minutes for the Wolverines, who claimed a season-opening victory on a steamy afternoon.

Elliott Whiteside scored between Green’s tallies to help give the Wolverines a 3-0 lead at the half. Topher Peterson made it 4-0 in the 42nd minute on an assist from Auston Ledford, with Evan Jones scoring six minutes later on a feed from Cole Pereira to make it 5-0.

Jack Smith found the back of the net in the 62nd minute to close the scoring for Polk.

Cade Bright had three saves in posting the shutout.

The Wolverines travel to Madison Middle on Wednesday for another Blue Ridge Conference match.
