Polk teen struck by vehicle Monday night

GREEN CREEK — A Polk County teen was struck Monday night by a vehicle along Sandy Plains Road, off Highway 9.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said the 15-year-old was walking on the road near the yellow line when he was hit.

The teen was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries. His condition was unknown as of Wednesday morning.

The driver was Myron Yoder, 55, of Tryon. Yoder, a Polk County commissioner, was not injured.

No charges have been filed in the accident.

An official with the Highway Patrol said Wednesday morning a report would not be available for at least a week. A message to the investigating state trooper was not returned by press time.
