The Meeting Place has a number of activities and events occurring throughout August.

A “Dance Through the Decades” will take place Friday, and will feature popular music throughout the years.

A Fish Fry fundraiser will also take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, with a menu including fried fish, hush puppies, baked potato, coleslaw, dessert and a drink. Interested participants may call The Meeting Place at 828-894-0001 for ticket information.

In addition to the special events, The Meeting Place will  offer a variety of new classes for older adults in the community this month.

Tai Chi, a gentle martial art practice, will be taught on Mondays and yoga will occur on Tuesdays. Craft classes will also take place throughout the month with future crafts being geode sun catchers, decorative door hangers and holiday wreaths.

The Meeting Place continues to need volunteers for various activities such as teaching classes, completing office work and being Meals on Wheels drivers. Only a few hours are required each month, and individuals can volunteer as much as desired.
