Local girls take home awards at national gymnastics competition

On June 28, Foothills Gymnastics Academy sent three girls to the Amateur Athletic Union National competition in Tampa, Florida, who all represented the Foothills well, coaches said.

Zina Ashwar and Reeve Carroll both earned second place all around in their age groups within the Xcel Bronze. Caitlyn Elledge, an Xcel Silver gymnast, earned third place all around after being the youngest one in her age group, as well as incorporating harder elements.

• Ashwar, national champion on vault with a 9.6, third on bars with a 9.525, third on floor with a 9.375, 9.325 on beam and second all around

• Carroll, second on vault with a 9.5, 9.350 on floor, 9.45 on bars, 9.35 on beam and second all around

• Elledge, third on the balance beam with a 9.75, 9.15 on floor, 9.65 on bars, 9.00 on vault and third all around.

The academy thanked Coach Jana Williamson for believing in the girls and for her dedication, as well as to each of the families who supports these girls in pursuit of their dreams.
