Big Brothers Big Sisters recently received a grant from the Unrestricted Fund of the Polk County Community Foundation.

The $5,000 grant is designated specifically to support increased services for children in the BBBS mentoring programs, and will be distributed as requested for events designed to fulfill that goal.

The Polk County Community Foundation distributes charitable donations locally to improve the quality of life for citizens in the community. It also hosts an endowment fund for Big Brothers Big Sisters, and administers individual donor funds from donors that may contribute to Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Additionally, the foundation channels donations for a fund at BBBS to provide for enrichment opportunities for Littles and to help offset outing costs for Bigs, so that being a volunteer mentor is not a financial burden.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is currently enrolling children ages 6-14 in the community-based program. Volunteers may apply to mentor in either the community or school program.

For information about BBBS, people may call 828-859-9230 or email polk@bbbswnc.org.
