Jerry Walter Jackson

The Rev. Jerry Walter Jackson, 75, of Mill Spring, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday morning, July 3, 2018, at his home.

A native of Polk County, he was the son of the late Volley and Monie Horton Jackson. He was a graduate of Polk Central High School and went on to be a sales representative for Liberty Life Insurance Company and American General. Also, he worked for Bunny Bread Company, Bost Bread and Sunbeam Bread.

The Rev. Jackson surrendered to preach in 1974 and became the pastor of Grassy Knob Baptist Church, serving the church for 44 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Brown Jackson, who passed away in 1983; one son, Thomas Keith Jackson; one daughter, Mikki Elaine Jackson; two sisters, Dorothy Emery and Noel Sternberg.

Surviving is his wife of 35 years, Margie Brown Jackson; four sons, Jerry Jackson Jr. (Tammy) of Green Creek, Volley Lewis Jackson (Staci) of Green Creek, Mark Jackson (Tonya) of Saluda and Scott Hicks of Boone; two daughters, Monique Searcy of Landrum and Tammy Jackson (Johnny) of Sunny View; one brother, Stanley Jackson (Patricia) of Gilkey; two sisters, Lois Searcy (Garland) of Sunny View and Vivian Searcy of Sunny View; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. in the McFarland Funeral Chapel.

A funeral will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, July 6, 2018 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lewis Jackson and the Rev. Mike Roberts officiating.

At other times, the family will be at the home.
