A gorgeous gathering

A large group of people from Tryon and beyond gathered within the confines of the Sunnydale cabin Friday evening to celebrate one of the town’s former mainstays — George’s Restaurant. A number of former staff members and customers of the restaurant — which operated in the building where Mr. Juan’s is currently located from the early 1980s to the late 1990s — came together to remember the restaurant with George and Maggie Howze, former owners of the business. Some guests came from as far as Colorado and Illinois to attend the reunion.  George’s Restaurant was known for its prime rib, stuffed potatoes and its signature dish, the Gorgeous George, a double cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, onion and a special homemade sauce. George gave guests another chance to savor the burger, as he served them for dinner Friday evening.
