The Meeting Place announces first-ever volunteer of the month

The Meeting Place has announced the volunteer of the month for July — the first distinction of its kind.
As volunteers are the main source of support for the Meals on Wheels program, The Meeting Place seeks to honor those who have been charitable and
compassionate.
Mike Davis, a resident of Green Creek, along with his wife, Dawn, has volunteered for the Polk County Meals on Wheels program for over
12 years.
Davis donates his time and travel expenses at least two days a week to deliver meals to various members of the community. With one of the largest routes on the Meals on Wheels agenda, Mike covers over 4,000 miles annually.
Even when The Meeting Place falls short on volunteers for the program, Davis steps in to help when needed. As an active member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Tryon and a retiree in the field of civil service, Davis has been known for his positive outlook and drive for community service, representatives said.
Beginning over 35 years ago with only 20 clients, the Polk County Meals on Wheels program has expanded and delivered over 25,000 meals in the past year to seniors in need.
Volunteers are the foundation of the program, as they provide social networking and are often the only individuals that the recipients see or speak with all day.
The Meeting Place is seeking additional volunteers for the Meals on Wheels program. Only a few hours a month are required to participate, and volunteers are able to give as much time as desired.
Those interested in helping may call The Meeting Place at 828-894-0001 for information.
